Trials for the team began in February this year, with almost 900 boys from across the State participating in the first round. The squad was progressively reduced in subsequent trials held in April, July and October, and the final team of 13 was announced on Melbourne Cup Day. James also participated in all of the trials in 2010, only to be eliminated at the very end. After some initial disappointment, he resolved to try again, and trained very hard in the off-season. His persistence has been rewarded. The boys in the team will be presented with their caps during the Boxing Day Test at the MCG.
