Vale – Robert James (Bob) DeCoite It is with deep regret that we advise the passing of our esteemed life member and patron, Mr R.J. (Bob) DeCoite (aged 85) who died at home at approximately 5.30 pm on Friday April 18. Bob was to attend the association’s 60th presentation night, later that day however, our President Norm Reeves was informed of the sad news just prior to the commencement of the function however, it was not made public as not all family members had been notified. Bob was a foundation member of the FTGDCA at out first meeting in 1947 and a life member of the Ferntree Gully Football & Cricket Clubs. He was also a champion cyclist being one of nine to complete the inaugural Sun Tour. FTGDCA General Manager Steve Brown stated, “We have lost our patron and friend and I know that there will be many people devastated by the passing of Bob. He was an absolute gentleman, a sporting icon in our region and a man who loved his local cricket and I’m glad that he was able to present the shield named in his honour to the Lysterfield Cricket Club at their recent presentation night. His name in the FTGDCA will live on forever.” The association extends its deepest sympathy to Bob’s partner, Marjorie and his family and friends.
